Rick Luthmann and I were back for the tenth episode of The Unknown.
We discussed current events, the latest on Diddy, Paul Boyne, and more.
In the last half hour, we had a great guest: Lindy Morelli of Lighthouse in Scranton.
I have interviewed Lindy several times before, and she is full of wisdom. In 2021, Megan Fox and I interviewed her about some of the wrongful conviction cases that she was advocating for. She came on about a half hour in.
Last year, I interviewed her about her book: The Open Gate to Paradise: A Lifeline for the Wrongfully Convicted and Their Families
She has since written a new book: Hold Me Heal Me, but I haven’t read that yet, so we talked about her previous book.
The Open Gate to Paradise: A Lifeline for the Wrongfully Convicted and Their Families is about the spiritual journey that Lindy faced trying to advocate for the wrongfully convicted while being overwhelmed with an unforgiving and corrupt justice system.
Lindy said that advocating for the wrongfully convicted forced her into roles which she wasn’t trained: investigator, lawyer, and more.
She was already struggling with all sorts of health issues, and the stress of these new endeavors nearly broke her.
She saw a brutal, unfair, and unrelenting criminal justice system. Soon, she felt that her work would be wasted.
The book describes her fight for Damien, a pseudonym, for a wrongfully convicted individual who continues to be imprisoned.
her inability to free him made her debilitated by grief and shame. This turned into trauma.
If she continued this way, she would have broken under the weight of the experience.
Instead, she developed a new spiritual awakening.
Whatever happened, it was G-d’s will, she said in the interview.
With that awakening, she discovered something else: Damien, even in jail, was free.
He never complained or felt sorry for himself. Instead, he lived life to the fullest, even in prison.
She trusted in the lord, Lindy told us, and this is not only stopped the vicious psychological and physical cycle, but it brought her peace.
She continues to fight for Damien and others, but she is comforted in the fact that no matter the outcome: it’s G-d’s will.
