The Unknown Episode 23: an Interview with Bruce Matzkin about the "Bad Neighbors" and What the Hale$

It's the courtroom drama sweeping YouTube, but is it contrived? Bruce Matzkin discusses with the legal and cultural drama behind this "frivolous" lawsuit.

Richard Luthmann and I were back to talk about the flurry of executive orders filed by new President Donald Trump, the pardon of the J6ers, and an update in Paul Boyne’s case.

Paul is free, and Rich and I deserve all the credit- along with his lawyers who filed an excellent motion to free him.

Rich updated on the Monica Ciardi case. I’m calling Monica the female Paul Boyne, as she is in jail for mean things she’s said about judges on social media.

Most recently, he found a connection between her prosecutor and a judge she tangled with.

John McDonald, formerly a New Jersey Family Court judge, is now the Somerset County Prosecutor. He played a key role in Ciardi’s divorce proceedings and is accused of perpetuating the narrative constructed by Uanis and his allies.

Ciardi alleges that McDonald echoed Uanis’s defamatory statements on the record, further undermining her case. In one instance, McDonald allegedly remarked that Ciardi "made a lot of false allegations that never go anywhere," a statement that not only prejudiced her case but also emboldened her abusers.

Questions about McDonald’s potential influence on Ciardi’s current prosecution are being raised. Given his history with Ciardi, many question whether the charges against her are politically motivated. Would another individual without a contentious history with McDonald face such severe legal consequences?

We asked Somerset County Prosecutor McDonald detailed questions related to Ciardi’s allegations. We received no response as of press time.

About forty-five minutes in, we welcomed attorney Bruce Matzkin to the broadcast. I’ve interviewed Bruce twice about the MacDaddy saga.

This time we talked about another case he’s involved in. He currently represents John Cook and Lynette Preston in a lawsuit where they are defendants against Jeremy Hales. Hales runs the popular YouTube channel What the Hale$, among several online ventures.

Ostensibly, Hales accused Bruce’s clients of defaming him by putting up signs accusing him of being a racist. Here is part of his complaint.

Bruce calls the signs a “MacGuffin” from Hitchcockian parlance. the thing necessary to file a complaint.

Bruce argued the on the broadcast that Hales did not file this lawsuit because he had a meritorious case. He filed it to create YouTube content. Frankly, he’s created a lot of YouTube content around the lawsuit.

He isn’t the only one. My (former) friend Megan Fox has covered this case religiously. In one video, she did yoga while commenting on a deposition of Ms. Preston. Just about every time the case has any movement, she and others spend hours on YouTube and other social media commenting on it.

Bruce told us that he has a handwriting expert who will testify that Hales wrote the signs, and he, furthermore, wrote them to look like they were written by Ms. Preston.

In the lawsuit, Hales cites a Facebook post which states, “John posted the signs, not me.”

The reason that Bruce called it a MacGuffin is because Hales doesn’t show any damages. The signs were found early morning by three of his friends on a side street. Hales has provided no evidence that anyone else even saw the signs.

Furthermore, his business is almost entirely online. He lives in the small town of Otter Creek, Florida; he’s shown no evidence that his YouTube channel or other businesses have suffered.

That’s because, Bruce argued, the lawsuit was designed to generate content and the signs were the necessary entrance to the lawsuit; I reached out to Hales attorney and Megan for comment, but neither responded.

Everyone is going along, even though there is a lot of evidence that this lawsuit is not meritorious.

Let’s take Hales deposition, when he refused to answer all of Bruce’s meritorious questions. Some examples are below.

How did Megan Fox respond to this disastrous deposition: she did a multi hour dramatic reading full of commentary and jokes.

Even though Hales would not answer any of the questions which asked him to defend his lawsuit, she and others treated this as more drama in a drama filled reality show.

They spent hours talking about it for tens of thousands of viewers, without once pointing out the obvious. Hales couldn’t show how any of his lawsuit was meritorious.

Ms. Preston and Mr. Cook are pawns, Bruce argued, in a widespread effort to use their lives for mockery in the name of content.
