For the second time since I have been following his case, Jeff Reichert faces the threat of incarceration.
Jeff faced another dramatic hearing in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and I spoke with his attorney, Zach Groves, in the podcast to get more details.
It was about a month ago when his ex-wife, Sarah Hornbeck, got a dubious protective order.
That was in Baltimore County, Maryland. Now, they were back in Anne Arundel County, Maryland for more shenanigans.
I’d explain why they keep bouncing back and forth between counties, except I can’t figure it out myself.
In the summer of 2024, Judge Allison Asti of Anne Arundel County attempted to jail Jeff by issuing a bench warrant.
Jeff and I talked more about that bench warrant in the interview below.
Judge Asti retired shortly after issuing this bench warrant; since she was at the center of much of the abuse, Jeff thought the corruption would end. In fact, the aforementioned Judge Morris was the one who withdrew the warrant.
Not so, Jeff hasn’t seen his son in well more than a year, even though a court order is supposed to grant him weekly visits. No one seems to care about that, and his attorney, Zach Groves, was at a loss to explain it when I asked him in the interview.
Jeff’s ex-wife got custody through dubious means, as Wayne Dolcefino uncovered in 2022.
Instead of fixing a terrible wrong, Judge Morris has continued the abuse.
The hearing on November 14, 2022, was supposed to be for three items, all potentially to hold Jeff in contempt. None of those items are as important as Sarah keeping their son away, but Judge Morris didn’t care about that.
Jeff filed a motion to appear remotely. Not only does he have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a type called Legal Abuse Syndrome (LAS), but in previous court appearances he had bailiffs swarming ready to arrest him.
So, Jeff had good reason to avoid the courthouse, but Judge Morris didn’t see it that way. She denied his motion and ordered him into the courtroom.
When Jeff appeared remotely, she issued this new bench warrant.
The contempt charges are dubious, Zach told me. One was for unpaid child support, except a lien has been put on his house already.
Another was for not doing a psychological evaluation, though he had his regular psychiatrist appointment the morning of the hearing.
Finally, the other side claimed that Jeff did not do an ordered drug test, even though Zach told me they provided said drug test to the court.
Sarah flagrantly keeping their son away wasn’t on this docket. The court has no appetite to hear that.
Zack told me this bench warrant has no bond so if Jeff is picked up, he’ll be held until the next court hearing on November 26, 2024.
At that hearing, I’ll bet they’ll come up with a reason to jail him again. It may be a while until we hear from Jeff Reichert again.
