MSPB Reverses Whistleblower's Termination
Keenan Reed, who blew the whistle on widespread corruption in the Memphis VA Medical Center, has had his termination reversed
The Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) has reversed a termination of a whistleblower who exposed widespread corruption in the Memphis VA Medical Center’s police department.
I featured Keenan Reed starting in December 2021.
He blew the whistle on a variety of issues inside the Memphis VA Medical Center’s police department.
Those issues included favoritism, not properly storing guns, and improper hiring.
Reed faced what most whistleblowers face: retaliation.
Another officer was recorded telling him that he was one of three people put on a list by the higher ups.
“You all are a product of horns,” Reed is told in the recording, “I know you know they’re gunning for you.”
What’s put a target on this whistleblower’s back.
Later in the recording, he is told that he has a target because he blew the whistle on a female officer who left a revolver in an unsecured area.
The female officer had been carrying on a relationship with the police chief.
Reed was first suspended and then terminated after I started covering the case.
Reed told me the accusations were months old- something he thought had been settled months ago- and they were only regurgitated after he began speaking out.
