Though Marty Gottesfeld is housed inside a federal prison unit that some inmates refer to as a black site, he is able to get communication out to the world on occasion.
Gottesfeld is currently being housed by the US Bureau of Prisons (USBOP) in the Communication Management Unit (CMU) in Marion, Illinois.
That CMU is one of two, along with one in Terre Haute, Indiana, which were created after 9/11 to house especially dangerous criminals and “manage their communication” which is a euphemism for shutting down their communication as much possible.
Except, Marty is not dangerous.
He is a convicted hacktivist, not a violent offender. He has no history of prison escapes or other dangerous activities.
He is one of a handful of “balancers”, a group of mostly white prisoners who are also placed inside the units, so it doesn’t look like they are designed strictly for Muslim Jihadis.
Below is a conversation with Schaefer Cox, who also spent time inside the CMU as a balancer.
Another balancer was Robert David Neal, a white insurance scammer who was killed by a Jihadi in 2019: this was a crime that was largely covered up by the US BOP.
Marty’s communication with the outside world is limited. On occasion, he lets out what it’s like inside an American black site.
Last year, he described how a prison guard was sexually harassing and assaulting the prisoners.
Earlier this year, he described how the CMU is failing in its core mission.
He’s let out other notes.
Now, he’s back with more musings.
