Paul Boyne deemed competent and fires his lawyers
His case will continue to be in limbo, and he'll continue to be locked up.
Paul Boyne will not be headed to a psych ward- as I expected- and he’ll be getting new representation.
The dramatic turn of events was first reported by Ed Mahoney of the Hartford Courant, but a better article was done by Rick Luthmann.
A man accused of cyberstalking for tormenting judges with malicious blog postings was found competent to stand trial Thursday and fired his public defenders for questioning his mental fitness.
The decision by Paul Boyne to discharge his two court-appointed lawyers puts his case, with its first amendment implications, on hold.
Paul has been sitting in jail for more than fifteen months now for writing mean things on his blog, thefamilycourtcircus.com.
“{Judge Thomas} Moukawsher is jewdicial shit worth of a .50 cal to the head,” Paul wrote in a blog cited in his arrest warrant.

There is a litany of US Supreme Court case law which protects the speech Paul engaged in- like the Watts decision I cited in The Frank Report- but Connecticut has no use for the first amendment.
Paul has been exposing the judiciary in his blog, and the judicial forces need to shut him up.
In the Watts decision, a young man shouted, “If they ever make me carry a rifle, the first man I want to get in my sights is L.B.J.”
The US Supreme Court said this was protected speech.
Paul was arrested in the summer of 2023 in Virginia and extradited to Connecticut. The trial was supposed to be held in the summer and then late September, but his two court appointed attorneys- Alice Powers and Jennifer Buyske of the Kirschbaum Law Group- put a wrench into the schedule when they claimed in court in September that he may be incompetent to stand trial.

Judge Peter Brown ordered a psychological evaluation, but he decided to make a decision on his own after Paul refused to comply. As such, Judge Brown asked Paul his name, residence, and alma mater. After Paul answered those questions correctly, Judge Brown deemed him fit for trial.

Paul then fired his attorneys- court appointed attorneys- and Judge Brown ordered new attorneys be appointed. He scheduled a hearing at the end of November 2024.
The case is in limbo, and a trial is nowhere in sight.
Now, a transcript from the September hearing has emerged which puts into great context the actions of everyone involved.
Let’s check out that hearing behind the paywall.
