On May 30, 2019, Katrina Milburn’s life changed forever.

She was waiting outside of Novant Health Urgent Care in Thomasville, North Carolina.

Her two year old daughter was sleeping in her car while she was on a phone call just outside the car.

At that point, five Thomasville Police swarmed, all with body cameras and swarmed her car. (Thomasville Police would later claim no body camera footage existed)

“I said, ‘my daughter is sick, please don’t wake her up,’” Milburn said, “One of the cops looked in the window, saw she was fine and started to walk away.”

The incident was just beginning.

Another officer approached her, and another officer followed him.

An officer asked Katrina for her name and identification.

“I told him my ID was in my purse which was in the passenger seat of the car.” Katrina Milburn.

She said that she complied.

“As I reached in to get my purse, I was pulled out by two officers and slammed to the ground.” Katrina said.

Hear Katrina describe the events below.

The police would later claim that no use of force was used.

On the ground, Katrina said her was pulled up from being slammed on the ground, exposing her thong, and she noticed officers gawking at her private area.

She tried to maneuver to cover up her private area, and as she did, two officers picked her up, and slammed her back on the pavement.

She was not arrested but rather given a citation for failure to follow a police command.

After about four hours, her daughter woke up; an officer then took the handcuffs off and told Katrina to find a ride home.

Though she was not detained for any child safety issue, Thomasville Police also called in Department of Social Services (DSS).

Katrina’s nightmare was just beginning.

Davidson County DSS

A Davidson County DSS Social Worker named Aja Waller showed up at the scene.

Katrina’s babysitter came to the scene.

The babysitter was told to take her two year old daughter back.

Waller followed Katrina back to her home, also in Thomasville.

“Aja Waller called Ray {her daughter’s father} and he said he had no concerns and that ‘I’m a good mother.’” Katrina said.

Her nightmare continued.

Waller then gave Katrina a safety assessment, a CPS form, and demanded she sign it.

Katrina remembers CPS closing the case from this incident a few weeks later; her nightmare should have ended there.
