Is it time to re-examine the Catherine Kassenoff story narrative?

Videos have come out suggesting that Allan Kassenoff wasn't the only one acting abusively: will anyone care or is the narrative cast?

Screenshot of Catherine Kassenoff, not in her finest hour

Earlier this week, the Frank Report (FR) had an explosive exclusive which could turn the burgeoning story involving the assisted suicide of Catherine Kassenoff on its head.

It will if the rest of the media picks up on it, and if they are fair, they will. Of course, the media is often far from fair.

FR received four audios and/or videos; they have thus far released two.

These two paint a very unflattering picture of Catherine.

Thus far, the videos which Catherine released in her Dropbox show her ex-husband Allan Kassenoff being verbally abusive.

Catherine released these videos, along with all sorts of other documents, along with her suicide note.

It is with a profound heartbreak, that I hope none of you ever experience, that I am writing my last post ever. Today, I will be ending my own life. I will be doing so in a dignified and idyllic setting in Europe. There are simply no other options left.

In the last four years of my life I have woken up every day to a nightmare like no other. I can no longer endure the abuse and terror of Allan Kassenoff, who has spent the last 4 years mercilessly trying to incarcerate me on false charges, as recently as March 2023. I have also endured the emotional devastation of being without my children for so long, homeless from Allan's repeated ex parte evictions of me from the homes I own and rented, deprivation of my property and obliteration of my life savings, the loss of my two dogs, the loss of my career and reputation, and the concomitant humiliation and ostracism from all this.

The reverberations have been swift. Her story has been picked up globally: covered by The Daily Mail, the Mirror, the New York Post, and others.

On-line influencer Robbie Harvey’s videos on this story have been watched by millions. {primarily on TikTok}

The reverberations have been swift; Allan lost his job.

Allan Kassenoff quickly became one of the most hated men in the world.

When Above the Law covered the story, it made this prophetic pronouncement.

There’s no excuse for the behavior captured in these videos. No matter what’s going on in a relationship, the “Biglaw screamer” routine is a toxic environment for children. And insulting and denigrating the other parent in the presence of the kids is heartbreaking to watch. The children’s reactions captured in these clips drive home how damaging it is to witness this sort of rage between caregivers.

That said, it’s critical to remember that these are only a few minutes of the family story, captured by a former prosecutor in the midst of a contentious custody fight. There’s no condoning these specific moments and whatever excuses he can muster that led up to these outbursts doesn’t diminish the impact on the children

FR released video that showed the situation is more complicated than those short snippets. FR put the videos on the site exclusively, but here are parts of the transcript.

Catherine Kassanoff: Sit down! Now! What you did is so bad… Sit down! I don’t care if […] or not. Sit down. Now.

Child  [Wailing]

Allan Kassenoff: You terrorize her. This is why she behaves this way. You’re the least supportive parent.

Catherine Kassanoff: Sit down. I will not be taped like this

Allan Kassenoff: You taped this whole conversation.

Catherine Kassanoff: You know what she did?

Allan Kassenoff: Yeah, I know what she did.

Catherine Kassanoff: She put five people in jeopardy today because she didn’t go where she was supposed to go. She made me come home from work.

Allan Kassenoff: Be a human being.

Catherine Kassanoff: She she she made me […] and look for her.

Allan Kassenoff: Where did you go look for her?

Catherine Kassanoff: We called the police.

To top it off, there is a finished bottle of wine next to Catherine.

the finished bottle of wine is next to Catherine.

Amazingly, FR reports that Catherine and Allan agreed to film each other.

If you wondered about the existence of the videos, Allan and Catherine’s marriage was deteriorating in 2016. They went to a marriage counselor, and afterward the couple decided to video record each other at home, in an effort to learn about the dynamics of their conflicts.

So, have we all gotten it wrong; should Allan get his job back, and do we all owe him an apology?
