Does CCSA Kim Foxx Have a Domestic Violence Problem?
Venkatesh Bhogireddy isn't the only one who got away with domestic violence; the CCSA herself also seems to be above the law.
On Friday, I appeared on Chicago’s Morning Answer with Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson.
We spoke about my recent article on the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office letting Venkatesh Bhogireddy off the hook in 2018.
Bhogireddy was the subject of four police reports in 2018 including: alleged rape, theft, domestic violence, and violating a protective order.
He was only charged with violating the protective order in September 2018. He was released the next day while the charges quietly went away in April 2019.
In May 2019, he was arrested for attempting the hire a hit-man to kill his his ex-wife’s uncle; he’s since been convicted of that crime.
This story suggests her office does not take domestic violence that seriously and it comes at a time when she’s accused of slapping her husband, Kelley Fox, which we also spoke about on the program.
A police report obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request shows police responded to Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx's home in Flossmoor earlier this month.
Foxx and her husband are asking for privacy, and calling the incident a "personal family matter."Foxx's husband Kelley Foxx has been by her side at various public appearances but it was a different scene the night of June 4.
According to the police report, Kelley Foxx dialed 911 to report a domestic incident with his wife, telling responding officers she became angry with him about something that was posted on Facebook that he did.
The call to the police was released shortly before I appeared with Dan and Amy. Here is a key portion, as relayed by CWB Chicago.
“Is it physical or just verbal?” the dispatcher asked.
“It’s,uh, physical,” Kelley Foxx replied.
“Is anybody injured?”
“No. Not yet,” said Foxx.
At that point, Kelley Foxx apparently addressed Kim Foxx.
“Don’t touch me,” he said.
“Everybody’s touching you,” a woman’s voice apparently replied. “Get out!”
Kelley Foxx also told police that Kim Foxx grabbed him and grabbed the remote from his hand.
As Dan noted, this fits the definition of battery, but she wasn’t charged.
This, coupled with the office’s handling of Venkatesh Bhogireddy’s case, suggests that domestic violence is not treated that seriously by her office.
Kim Foxx has called this a private family matter, but this is ridiculous, as I said on the program.
The police were called; that’s no longer a private family matter, even if she wasn’t the Cook County State’s Attorney.
Indeed, both Kelley and Kim Foxx must have known that him making that phone call would create the current media firestorm, threaten her career, and cause a massive scandal.
He called the police anyway.
That means whatever led up to this call it was to borrow from Marty McFly, pretty heavy.
She owes it to the public to explain what’s going; this matter is not going away.
