Curt Autry Says the Quiet Part Out Loud
The Virginia newsman calls those struggling with child custody worthy of Maury Povich
Late last week, Curt Autry, who is an anchor with NBC 12 in Virginia, put out a controversial Facebook post.
“PLEASE DON’T INCLUDE ME… in any of your family/domestic drama. I’vebeen tagged in 23 different posts today by people I don’t know, talking about their ‘crazy ex’, ugly divorces, custody.”
He went on to suggest he can’t do any child custody stories “for legal reasons.”
This seems like a peculiar thing to say for someone who is constitutionally protected.
As I have mentioned many times, the media is often afraid to tackle these stories for fear of being sued.
Autry closed with #IaintMaury suggesting that ugly divorces are better suited for Maury Povich's tabloid show.
After he was confronted by several domestic violence victims who told him he was missing a huge story, he responded with another post.
Many of the controversial divorce cases which need coverage have either abuse which is covered up or a false allegation of abuse.
Separating corruption in child custody from domestic violence is faulty. Those issues go hand in hand.
Finally, Autry removed his original post and posted this instead.
Whatever fits his narrative, maybe he should struggle through family court and see for himself how it should be covered by the press. We are in the trenches covering these stories worthy of being heard.
