Bonus Coverage: Randall Raar dishes more on the Oakland County child killer, another murder, and more
After the interview, Raar sent me several emails expanding on the topics we talked about.
Earlier this week, I interviewed Randall Raar from inside the Robert A Handlon Correctional Facility in Ionia, Michigan.
If you listen to the interview, I expressed some frustration with him that his answers were not forthcoming enough.
We talked about his conviction, his investigation into the Oakland County Child Murders, and the murder of Donna Gomez.
Raar was convicted in 2006 of child molestation, but his conviction is largely on the strength of the victim who was 21 when she testified but 5 and 6 when the crimes occurred.
Furthermore, I discovered that shortly after the crimes, when she was 6, the victim told a therapist that the perpetrator was someone else.
Raar believes that he was targeted for investigation because he was investigating the notorious serial killings in 1976-1977 referred to as the Oakland County Child Murders, where four children were abducted in four different suburbs of Detroit.
Randall was light on details of what he knew and how it related. He did- as he has before- note that his home was raided about a month after a FOIA request had been made by him related to the Oakland County Child Killer.
He couldn’t remember what he was asking for, however.
After the interview, he sent me several emails to expand on his thoughts.
